Yeah but you don't need to have everyone densely packed into a tiny city you know? Cars allow people to live outside the city and not invest an entire day every time they go there. If they wanna reduce people's reliance on cars then they should focus on providing reliable, inexpensive alternatives, not just banning the only option that many have of getting around in a practical manner and leaving them to their own devices.
That's what I mean by virtue signaling in this case. They don't actually care to think things through and plan for actual solutions which benefit people.
