so it was a huge 9 person group of people from around the dorm. i'm playing a lawful evil warlock that's basically obsessed with being very important, well renowned, seen as powerful, etc.
in this setting magic is pretty heavily frowned upon. not necessarily illegal, just freaks people out.
the setup was basically that we're all military that just enlisted and decided to head to this massive rough and tumble bar to celebrate. it's also worth mentioning that we started at level 10, so we're pretty powerful.
the first thing i ended up doing was convince 3 of the other party members to go gamble on blackjack with me against 3 random huge dudes that were playing in the corner. a few rounds go by and then there's a pretty big pot of money on the table for whoever ended up winning. in the end everyone reveals their cards and one of the party members ends up losing by a small margin, so i sprung my plan into action>alright. want to stand up and make a big show of casting detect magic>uh.. okay?>do i detect any?>no.. nothing at all>cool, doesn't matter. i'm going to start yelling to get people's attention>eh?>i knew it! there's an illusionist among you. how dare you be so bold to think you can swindle agents of the law?>wait, you're accusing these big dumb looking guys of being casters?>yup. i'm going to grab the party member's queen and use prestidigitation to make it turn into an ace>you mongrels didn't expect that i'd be able to sense your trickery let alone dispel it, did you? disgusting. leave us the winnings that are rightfully ours and we'll overlook this situation instead of taking you into custody>the guys pick up the card and look at it absolutely dumbfounded. they have no idea what just happened and are too confused to dispute your claims and angrily get up instead, leaving you with the gold
