Law of God ≠ law of Moses
Lets compare & contrast the two to showcase the purpose of each distinct system of law, and show how you cannot conflate the two.
■ Referred to by different names.
► Called the “law of Moses”
— Luke 2:22 “And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;”
► Called “the law of the LORD”
— Psalms 19:7-10 “7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
— Isiah 5:24 “24 Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.”
■ Species of Law are distinct.
► Law of Moses were customary ordinances.
— Ephesians 2:15 “Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;”
— Hebrews 9:10 “10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.”
► Law of God is an eternal Royal Law of liberty
— James 2:8 “If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:”
