The college thing is definitely a bit weird. The people around him (in the first two chapters) haven't actually gone to college, they're either in school or working. I could see it as a legitimate attitude coming from them if the game tried to prove them wrong in some way. However, it doesn't try to prove them wrong; Alex is lazy and aimless, his main take away from college is being long winded, and the other characters are more mature than him.
It also makes a bit of sense that they would be pushing him about what he's going to do with a degree because the economy in their 90s is bad, but they never push back on it.
All that said, Alex is really shitty about college not because of his degree or his aimlessness, but because he got a full ride from his mother and isn't the least bit grateful to her.>>190608
