The speed issue is about signalling and geometry, not forces. Freight trains are the hardest on the tracks, high speed is one of the easiest.
If cab signalling were added and freight trains were removed (or adicional tracks were added, like in Germany, France and Spain (pic related), where freight share tracks with high speed trains), the travel speeds would not just return but increase.
