yeah, they could add presto i suppose... lining up is a pain but you can always buy books of tickets ahead of time / online and just breeze through - not a problem at the moment but useful when it's busy.
again, the infrastructure you use to get there adds to the value of the whole experience imo - pretty sweet to get on an open decked 80 year old ferry after work and escape the shittiness of downtown. not against all modernization but maybe some things should be left as is.
btw, the islands are not "closed" as stated pretty much everywhere - centre island is not open but still walkable, everywhere else is much as usual - fair number of people there yesterday. if you get queried just say you're going to the restaurant to eat.
