What happens if a nigger kills me for my bike? What happens if a drunk driver creams me at 60 MPH? What happens if you go longer than 60 seconds without sucking cock? We live in an industrialized society with inherent risks. Some can be mitigated, some can't be. I take steps to greatly reduce the risk I'm in an accident by using lights and riding in a safe, legal, and predictable manner. I've thought about it, and the marginal protection a helmet would offer me is not worth the inconvenience. If the unlikely happens, I'll accept the consequences, just like I would if I had a major skiing accident, a car accident, if I got struck and maimed walking, etc. I've used bicycles as my primary mode of transportation for the last ten years, since I was a teenager when I was forced to buy and use an old '80s ten speed because I could not afford the fuel for my parents' Jeep I was allowed to use. I've ridden double digit miles daily in California, Viriginia, and Idaho, with vastly different infrastructure, traffic patterns, and attitudes toward cycling. Riding without a helmet is not even close to the riskiest thing I choose to do. But by all means, continue to clutch your pearls while engaging in something that is probably far more risky.
