Someone school me on what’s goong on here. Norfolk Southern has laid off 150 workers at the Juniata shops, one of the largest locomotive shops in the world as part of their “progressive railroading” scheme. What the fuck is this? I understand that has to do with running longer trains but wouldn’t that require more power, in term leading to the same amount of locomotives needing serviced? Or is this just a sexed up way of downsizing because they’re hurting? 5 years ago NS was buying every surplus locomotive anyone had to offer, now this? Im puzzled.
