>>767082>Obama have been telling them that their way of life is nearing an end and that they need to [adapt].
That's exactly the message that leads to insurrection. It's beyond that you want to kill their bodies, you want to kill their existence as a people for eternity.
...and the GOP sends the same message, calling all the Democrats communists, race traitors, or what not.
No amount of education, facts, or logic beats the rage those messages generate. You aren't attacking policy, you are attacking people and ideas.
Neither those people nor their ideas are going anywhere, and that's a core concept you must accept in your approach.
That doesn't mean you have to put up with shit that's unacceptable to your own values, but it does mean you cannot ignore the problems of the other party, be it climate change or immigration. Whether that means providing market driven carrots instead of regulatory penalties for climate change, or going after white illegal employers, instead of migrants just seeking a better life, any alternate solution to the same problem is viable.
Ignoring their issues, and treating the other party's people as one sort of demon or another, just makes us vulnerable to people like Stalin or Hitler, as those people become more and more desperate for someone to save them, and the nation looks more to them like a monster that needs to be defeated, even at the cost of their own livelihoods, than something they are willing to live together under.
