Only good thing about the AT these days is that it's a long straight shot to walk that is mostly in the shade. It isn't wild anymore unless you're a day hiker who thinks "wild" means hiking an hour without major roads, clearcuts, buildings, or groups of people. The other people you're going to encounter are about 1 in 3 batshit crazy and weird as fuck, 1 in 3 homeless hippie types, and 1 in 3 just doing what you are and want to be left alone.
But a shady walk in sort of mostly woods with only a few people an hour to bug you is still an okay thing. Just don't expect some pristine spiritual experience unless you're going to do all the "safety meetings" and stay stoned for half of it, in which case I guess you can remember it how you like. Reality is a bummer, dude.
