Tarps are pretty situational. If you are going to spending most of your time outing in exposed, windy places, then tarp camping is probably not the best option. Camp site selection is probably one of the most important aspects of being successful with a tarp. If the weather is going to get real you'll need to be able to find somewhere that provides natural shelters to augment your tarp. Otherwise you're going to have a bad time.>Cheap or DIY
If you want to get a quick intro to tarping then buy a cheap one. If you want to use your tarp seriously you're better off buying a nice one or making one yourself. The key to a good tarp pitch is being able to crank that motherfucker taught. This is what separates a good tarp from a bad one. >Gateway to larping?
