Bigger resorts are set up in a way that you can ski all day without returning to the bottom (and you shouldn't, because they're full of idiots and the snow goes bad). Even at my three chair hill, two of the chairs are below the lodge in elevation and separated by ridges, so getting to them from the bottom is a pain, and the single lodge is always crowded. Lockers cost money, and hiking back to the car is a pain in the ass. It's way more convenient to carry a small backpack with your lunch and water so you never have to go back, and then you can eat at the top of the mountain and take in the views. Plus is you want to build some small features you can carry a shovel, and if you're into photography you can carry camera equipment. Additionally, a lot of resorts, even relatively small ones, at least in the West, have backcountry gates you access via lift. And if you go into the backcountry without avalanche gear, layers, water, and food, you're a fucking idiot. You just sound like a faggot, tbqh.
