>>1675855>Both guns and pepper spray is illegal in this fucked up country.
Don't know aus laws (and I am german, so even american laws seem strict to me). So I'll just name a few options, ranked by effectivity - whether they're legal, you'll have to find out yourself.
-"blank" gun, possibly loaded with irritant or shot
-polearm (long, steel tipped walking stick, climbing axe, hunting spear etc). Stabbing an attacking dog in the mouth is effective even with a rubber-tipped staff.
-some kind of thin whip (sjambok, sliced bamboo, rattan). My grandfather carried one made of rattan when training combat dogs in the 30s, but I don't know if he've ever had to use it.
-ultrasonic alarm. more of a deterrent than actual defence.>>1676964>You never used pepper spray.
Not him, but i have seen pepper spray used more than once. I've yet to see it actually stop somebody. Even youtube is full of videos of people getting sprayed and running an assault course or sparring.
On the other hand, I've seen a can which was supposed to shoot a jet over 3-4m have only 30cm of actual range - just a few days after it was bought. The only iritants worth carrying are pepper blanks for revolvers and shotguns, and even those are only useful to shock the attacker for a second while you escape. against a pack of dogs, irritants are useless.
