When I was around 14, I was camping /out/ with my youth movement (similar to scouts). I was always easily scared back then. But during that camping trip there was one night that changed it all for me. It opened my eyes and made me realise that there's nothing to be afraid of /out/ there.
During the day we walked into the forest for about half an hour. We set up a small camp there, gathered wood, made a fire pit and went back to main camp.
During the night we had to hike there by ourselves using only a shitty flashlight. Once there the person there was relieved and you took his place. You had to sit there by yourself for an hour and had to keep this small fire going. Then the next person took your place and you could head back to main camp.
There were only 4 of us so you ended up doing this twice that night. By the 2nd time I had to go, I wasn't scared anymore at all. I just sat there by the fire thinking about random stuff and when the entire hour had passed, it looked like I only sat there for 20min or so
Looking back at it, it sounds really stupid and not scary at all. But 14yo me almost shat my pants at first. It really made me not scared of going /out/ anymore. This experience learned me not to be a pussy, so I'm very greatful for it
