OP I used to backpack alone before my car died.
Now I go with other people. It’s decent, at least they’re into backpacking. But their style is different - go to sleep late, sleep in, walk fast with heavy gear.
I prefer walking more slowly but ultimately covering more ground, making camp, eating then turning in early to get up at sunrise and enjoy an early start. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea and I respect that. Being solo I can do what I want. >>1828499
I’m legit kinda scared about aliens. Animals and crazies - you can deal with that shit, at least in theory. Stocks, stones, knives. Avoid sketchy campsites. But once the aliens beam you up you’re screwed.
I feel safe in my tent even though it gives no protection. Zip up everything, put in earplugs, pretend I’m safe. I’ve woken from weird flashes (thunder) or strange noises (a buzz, probably a plane) - even smells. I just pretend I’m safe inside my two layers of thin nylon and go back to sleep.
