Actually, DSLR is an inferior design for image quality. The closer the back element of the lens is to the sensor the higher the image quality. It's an objective truth due to physics and the way light works.
But DSLRs have been the king for such a long time there's a lot of R&D behind them and good lens selection. The future, though, is probably going to be mirrorless and it's eaiser to carry a mirrorless with you in more occasions since they're more compact.
The optical viewfinder is only ideal for fast action photography, like sports/etc, but these days burst shooting can often make up for it. Shoot earlier, hold the button a second longer, and cherry pick the "moment" later. The few milliseconds latency in an EVF or rear display is rarely a factor for 99% of photographers. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but most people don't actually NEED an optical viewfinder since they're shooting flowers and portraits/nature or don't have the human reaction speed necessary to make the mirror worth it.
