is the guy in the blue shirt on the front row.
So the picture was taken with a timer from a tripod or with the camera on some other object (also the ridiculous perspective distortion).
Now the picture seems strangely of center with the path. I'd give it a fair chance the camera is sitting on a bench like the one at the right side of the picture.
This group shot was an afterthought at best while the 1927 one was probably planned weeks in advance because they had to hire somebody to take it.
