You are worried the taxation would hurt automation? I'm worried the taxation would hurt my bank account. I think taxes are pretty reasonable now but if he passes a 10% VAT like he is talking about everything you buy will be another post-tax 10%. So if your blended rate is 25% then of that 75% remaining you'll pay another 10% plus whatever your local sales tax is whenever you buy something (probably other than food).
I don't mind bailing out a fellow citizen in need if they have some kind of path or drive to getting themselves working and back on their feet, but a lot of the people collecting government aid now seem to be content in just continuing too. I'd be a bit worried that we'd give this money out and they'd spend it on getting their nails done and new mobile phones rather than education or things to help their kids or whatever.
My mom works for HUD and she is really compassionate but the stories she tells me makes me worry. She listened to Yang speak and doesn't think he realizes that a lot of the people who need government aid aren't able to make smart financial decisions. If you give them cash they'll blow it, that's why we need to give them something for food (so they'll eat) and something for housing (so they have a place to live). But the problem with both systems is that they have no motivation to get out of it, they now simply EXPECT to be given these things.
