Pokémon has never been the only thing I play but it is the only monster collection one I care about.
WoFF was pretty good and I definitely hope at some point another one appears but that's because I like FF rather than the monster collection bit.
I will just play other games more and abandon that specific genre almost entirely because none are as good in base concept and will always be, at best, a cheap knock off of what should be a better series.
I care about those monsters specifically, no others.
I've tried shit like Digimon several times and despite liking some of the seasons of the show (coincidentally, like Pokémon games, seasons 1 - 4 in particular, before the show too became straight up dumb) I just can't get into them.
I feel like with Pokémon there is something that could be good about them but I've yet to see them do it right.
WoFF had the same problem, in fact. Being able to go from species to species is a more unique thing which Pokémon doesn't do but the fact that you can't access everything possible is a problem for me. Which might sound familiar since it's the same problem S/S and beyond will now have and is a deal breaker as a result of.
