I don't know if this is actual canon or just something I assumed as a child that hasn't yet been confirmed false, but I was always under the impression that the opposite-colored orb is supposed to be able to control the Legendary and the same-colored orb is to power it up. In RSE, Archie and Maxie picked the orbs opposite their Legendaries in the hopes that they could control them, but they were still stronger than expected, so they ended up failing for whatever reason despite this. In ORAS, they went straight for the orb that allowed Primal Reversion, which was much more dangerous and even more inevitably doomed to failure.
So on the one hand, yeah, RSE would be doomed. But on the other, ORAS Archie and Maxie were MUCH more stupid to allow Primal Reversion than the RSE ones were to try to limit and control them, if this information is actually correct. Also, I choose to believe that this difference was because Zinnia was trying to worsen the situation and encouraged them to go for the stronger orb, because it's so much more interesting than if she not only was just a Grunt but didn't even *do* anything to alter her team's plans and twist them towards her own goals. But this is definitely just my headcanon and not actually confirmed.
Also note: non-Primal Groudon's markings have been shown to glow blue and non-Primal Kyogre's have been shown to glow red. It's not as if there's absolutely no connection between each one and the opposite orb's color.
