Once you know what the different Greek symbols mean, and understand derivatives, integrals and a few other mathematical formulas (like summation), then it all becomes much more clearer and way less intimidating. I'm an electrical engineer (b.eng), not really a theoretical physics guy, and it all looks clear to me even though I have no idea what 80% of the shit written is.
Learning science is a gradual process, you learn little by little. Don't feel bad for not understanding what others took years to learn.
