Why do people insist that this is a thing? He takes his fingers off the hammer plenty of times. Plus, unless it was placed in front of the hammer, his finger wouldn't have been a guaranteed hindrance anyway.
Not to say there couldn't be a death-avoiding plan behind it (was the gun even loaded?)... but come on. Watch the entire scene, he's not holding the hammer in any significant way.
