look, this is the conversation to end all conversations regarding modern era godzilla.
too much human bullshit. We came to see people be powerless, and Godzilla fuck shit up relentlessly.
What 2014 got right was the powerlessness of the humans. Try as they might, there was little they could do in the shadow of the colossus.
What 2019 got right? better graphics, more fight. Great use of camera to make the climax seem atmospheric.
The next GZ movie better be the perfect blend of the 2. We have the tech, this is the perfect fuckin era for Kaiju movies. GZ was only 60 years ahead of his time.
Bonus Points: Shin Gojira is a great modern GZ movie, but I feel they went a little wonky on the conceptualization.
Also, I felt the initial trailer to be misleading. I originally thought it was going to be HD Cloverfield, with Godzilla running amok. That would have been fuckin EPIC.
Finally: They need to do something about GZ's proportions. Huge body, TINY head. 2014 he was still relatively intimidating to look at, but 2019, I was underwhelmed by his characteristics.
TL;DR? Godzilla is being done a great injustice, despite hollywoods best efforts. I'd watch a 4 hour Godzilla Epic if it meant that it was executed properly.
So much potential, and the sacrifices in each movie thusfar leaves everybody wanting more.
