The old guys are broken from doing the hard work when they were young, and they have papers and resumes that theoretically allow them to get a job on another ship pretty fast if they don’t like the duties. I get hit with random thoughts about family members who have been dead for decades, or embarrassing stuff from high school if I let my mind wander while on the endless hours of night watch. Gotta keep your mind busy. >>1705820
Might have been me, an engie chad. Modern vessels are using PLC setups to control systems like propulsion or controls, or mission specific equipment like factory processing setups.
For someone who’s already a marine engineer, having some PLC knowledge or credentials is a good thing to pad out a resume, but if you aren’t already in the marine industry it’s not gonna get you a shipboard position. You can find work on shoreside support operations.>>1706027
