Not covid related but I have had 3 separate female rideshare drivers give me shit for drinking water out of a camelbak-type straw from my backpack while riding with them.
Two had homemade signs saying that you couldn't eat/drink in their car, which I ignored and it angered them, even though they need to drink water to live just like I do.
I had one driver who somehow thought I was vaping in her car and started aggressively tapping my leg when I ignored her idiotic questioning about it, until I had to convince her I was drinking water and not vaping.
In the last 20 years people have really tried to crack down on personal freedoms, chipping away wherever possible. I can no longer bring my own ice water to airports, stadiums, concerts etc. for the most part.
I suppose I have gotten some weird looks for not having my mask on outside (most people wear them) but wearing a mask is super uncomfortable and really, as you said, it is all about power and control.
I have noticed women are far more likely to wear double masks and seem to be more intent on social policing little things like that, but I also got yelled at for bringing my water bladder to a public pool, which I had been doing for years, but apparently since covid, you were no longer supposed to have water within 3 feet of the edge of the pool? I got yelled at by a hapless pool employee who insisted I had to move my water pack out of reachable distance because drinking water when exercising is wrong somehow? I had to get an exception by making multiple calls to headquarters.
All about petty control and power. I should be able to drink ice water wherever I please.
I am of the opinion the main purpose of the "no liquids on flights" rule is to try to sell more alcohol on flights.
