I shoot B&W for the most part, and when I do switch over to colour I just leave it on auto because I only shoot wildlife in colour and I usually won't have time to sit around messing with my damn white balance.
It's more important to me to have a clear photo of a rare creature for my own collection than it is to have a perfect photo for publishing or whatever.
For exceptionally rare creatures I straight up just roll it over onto Auto mode and stick the focuser on Smart. (my camera has Manual, Smart, and Zoom. Manual is manual obviously, Zoom is optimized for higher zoom levels, and Smart is the mode that says 'okay computer, It's ALL on you, good luck!)
